A large fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle of Chengdu Mobile Sky and Ground has been tested in actual combat to improve emergency communication support
On June 17, in order to verify the emergency communication support capability of large fixed-wing UAVs in emergencies, China Mobile (Chengdu) Industry Research Institute, China Aviation Industry Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute, AVIC (Chengdu) UAV System Co., Ltd., China Mobile Communications Group Ningxia Co., Ltd. Guyuan Branch, and China Mobile Communications Group Sichuan Co., Ltd. carried out a cross-provincial and cross-regional air-to-ground large-scale fixed-wing UAV emergency communication test drill.
Large fixed-wing UAV in testing
According to reports, the exercise was carried out by a large fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with a China Mobile wireless communication base station. Through the China Mobile emergency communication coverage model algorithm, 4G/5G communication innovation technology, and satellite transmission, it provided an all-weather emergency communication guarantee scheme. Get rid of the constraints of ground power supply and communication backhaul, and quickly get through the communication between the command center and the designated area.
During the exercise, the large fixed-wing UAV continued to hover in the designated area with an altitude of 5,200 meters above the test site and an altitude of 3,500 meters above the ground. The signal coverage area exceeded 50 square kilometers, and it could maintain continuous and stable mobile signal coverage for up to 35 hours. , breaking the record of the largest area of 38 square kilometers covered by the air base station in the Zigong test flight test in December 2019.

When natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, mudslides, ice and snow occur, causing large-scale communication interruptions and power outages and circuit breakers, ordinary emergency communication methods cannot quickly restore communication, which will affect disaster relief operations. The fixed-wing UAV has the advantages of long battery life, long flight distance and low flight cost, which can greatly improve the emergency response efficiency and coverage of rescue and disaster relief, and provide strong emergency communication support for rescue and disaster relief command.
In the next step, China Mobile (Chengdu) Industry Research Institute will work with more partners to continuously strengthen the emergency communication support of large-scale fixed-wing UAVs in the air, space, and ground through actual combat tests, and improve the combat effectiveness of the emergency communication support team.
