LG delays launch of first 42" OLED TVs to 2022

LG Electronics is reportedly planning to launch the first 42-inch OLED TVs as part of its 2022 TV line-up. The new smaller OLED size could be unveiled at CES 2022 in January.

LG Display, the panel maker, announced in January that it would start producing 42-inch OLED panels this year. LG Electronics, the consumer brand, had planned to ship the first TVs in the second half of 2021 but the launch has apparently been delayed to 2022. - "Apparently, LG wants to add the model to next year’s TV lineup to maximize its marketing efforts rather than unveiling it later this year," an industry official told The Korea Economic Daily.

LG's line-up currently encompasses 48 to 88-inch OLED sizes

The report said that LG is likely to unveil the new smaller 42-inch model at CES 2022 in January. It will be positioned as a gaming TV for HDMI 2.1-enabled game consoles like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. - "Industry officials said LG’s 42-inch OLED TV will be optimized for game consoles such as PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X," the report said. LG's current OLED TVs support up to 4K120 (4K at 120fps) in HDR10 and Dolby Vision. They also feature support for HDMI VRR, AMD FreeSync, and Nvidia G-Sync Compatible.
