LG has announced that its premium G1 OLED TVs are now covered by a 5-year limited panel warranty in US. But will it cover burn-in?
5-year warrantyWith its new warranty, LG is seemingly trying to ease consumers' fears about panel failure on the still relatively new OLED TV technology. The company refers to it as a "5-year limited panel warranty". It applies only to the LG G1 "Evo" OLED TVs (55, 65 and 77-inch) and only in the US. - "Limited panel warranty applies to panel failure on LG G1 OLED TVs due to a defect in materials or workmanship under normal and proper use during the warranty period. Terms and conditions apply," announced LG USA. The company did not refer specifically to burn-in or retention anywhere in its press release or in the warranty terms – "defect in materials" is the closest we get. LG USA did not respond immediately to FlatpanelsHD's request for clarification regarding burn-in warranty. We will update our article if we hear back. The limited panel warranty "covers both parts and labor within the first year after purchase and the panel itself (parts only) for the years 2-5", said LG. Warranty terms and conditions can be found here.
