OnRobot launches low-cost and easy-to-use 2FG7 electric parallel gripper for demanding applications

Odense, Denmark, November 12, 2020 – OnRobot has recently launched a fully functional, cost-effective, easy-to-operate, ready-to-use electric parallel gripper 2FG7 for cleanroom use. The design of 2FG7 Aimed at companies of all sizes, it is designed to provide low-cost clamping applications that can be deployed in minutes, with special additions designed to handle demanding load tasks – even in extremely tight spaces, It can also get the job done. The new 2FG7 gripper is ideal for low-volume, high-mix production. It can demonstrate a high return on investment in many different application areas such as machine tool management, pick and place, and assembly.

“Our customer requested a motorized parallel gripper capable of supporting loads in excess of 6 kg (13.22 lbs), while retaining the ease of use of OnRobot products,” said Enrico Krog Iversen, CEO of OnRobot: “The 2FG7 form factor Small, powerful and easy to program, this is definitely a powerful, production-ready gripper.”

The 2FG7 has a maximum payload of 11 kg (24.3 lbs), an external gripping diameter of up to 74 mm (2.91 inches), and a clamping force between 20-140 Newtons, so the versatile 2FG7 can easily handle heavy, bulky payload. Smaller and more powerful than OnRobot’s RG2 and RG6 grippers, the 2FG7’s size (156 x 158 x 180 mm/6.14 x 6.22 x 7.08 inches) makes the 2FG7 the perfect choice for tight work environments select. This is a key plus in space-constrained and busy production facilities, as well as applications that need to operate in tight quarters.

“The cost of robotic hardware components has fallen in recent years, but this has not benefited small manufacturing companies. This is because the vast majority of industrial robot peripherals are still too complex and time-consuming to deploy,” Iversen explained. “OnRobot is changing that.”

The 2FG7 fits seamlessly into the OnRobot family of products and is compatible with all major cobot and light industrial robot arms, allowing manufacturers of all skill sets to quickly and easily set up gripping applications. The ease of use of 2FG7 ensures simple visibility into the deployment process, greatly reducing the need for custom parts and greatly shortening the time to return on investment. At the same time, its intelligent feedback functions, such as grab detection and grab failure detection, further simplify the deployment process.

Clean room testing and certification

The 2FG7 is a production ready gripper built to withstand extreme manufacturing conditions and applications. In addition to IP67 certification, the 2FG7 is also cleanroom certified (ISO class 5), thus meeting the requirements of many handling applications in the pharmaceutical and electronics industries, among others. In addition, it has passed ISO/TS 15066 for risk assessment of collaborative robot cells.

The 2FG7 is powered by an integrated electric motor, which offers considerable advantages over other pneumatic-based gripper systems. Users of the 2FG7 can easily program force, velocity and travel control settings through an intuitive software interface. This makes the gripper ideal for high-mix/low-volume production, allowing for quick and easy setup adjustments based on the parts being processed.

The precision provided by the 2FG7’s motor enables the gripper to achieve a finger position resolution of 0.1 mm (0.004 in) and a gripping time of 200 mm/s. For the end user, the ability to fine-tune the travel, reach and finger position allows for a wide range of applications.

In contrast, pneumatic grippers provide only limited, low-resolution control of gripping force through air pressure regulation. In addition, pneumatic systems do not provide smart grab detection and also release pollutants into the work environment, causing air quality pollution.

“OnRobot exists to democratize automation by providing manufacturers of all sizes with affordable, easy-to-operate products that they can use right out of the box. The 2FG7 Motorized Parallel Gripper is OnRobot’s democratized, plug-and-play A strong addition to the product line,” said Iversen.
