Following a power struggle between Samsung Display, the display panel maker, and Samsung Electronics, the consumer electronics brand, the two divisions have decided to move forward with plans to commercialize QD-OLED TVs. That is according to Korea's ETNews, which has provided accurate information in the past. The report claims that Samsung Electronics has agreed to launch a "QD display TV" after Samsung Display agreed to extend production of LCD panels for Samsung's many LCD TVs spanning from low-end LCDs to high-end "QLED" LCD TVs. - "They agreed on having Samsung Electronics use QD display panels that Samsung Display is working on for Samsung Electronics’ TVs and having Samsung Display extend production of LCDs that was scheduled to end at the end of this March until the end of this year and deliver a supply of LCDs that Samsung Electronics needs," the report said.

In 2019, Samsung Display announced a $11 billion investment in "next-gen" QD-based displays. Today, all OLED TVs from all brands use panels from LG.Display. Samsung’s version is said to use blue OLEDs in combination with quantum dots. ETNews said that Samsung is expected to release the TV in early 2022, citing unnamed industry people familiar with the matter. - "Samsung Electronics is expected to release TVs with QD displays in time with the beginning of 2022," claimed ETNews. Of course, this is not the first time we hear about a Samsung QD-OLED TV so take it with a grain of salt. - Source: ETNews
