Along with the continuous high-speed development of social economy, automobiles have gradually entered the homes of ordinary people. However, as the number of car users continues to increase, the problem of traffic safety has become increasingly serious. According to the “White Paper on Smart Safety of China’s Road Freight Industry” in May 2020, 37% of car accidents in China are caused by drivers. Therefore, driver behavior monitoring has become an important part of automobile safety research.

DMS is the abbreviation of Driver Monitoring System, which can monitor the driver’s fatigue state and dangerous driving behavior around the clock while the car is running. In September 2017, Euro NCAP released Road Map 2025, which listed DMS and AEB and other technologies as primary safety systems, which also highlighted the importance of DMS systems for future car designs. WPI’s OmniVision OV9284-based DMS solution can be used for driver fatigue detection, driver and passenger behavior monitoring, and engine start safety certification and other related functions.

The core device of this solution is the OmniVision OV9284 image sensor, which uses OmniPixel3-GS™ technology, which can provide 1280 x 800 resolution and video speed up to 120fps. In addition, the OV9284 is equipped with an industry-leading near-infrared (NIR) quantum efficiency (QE) of 12% at 940nm, which helps designers achieve sufficient illumination with fewer LEDs, reducing overall system cost and power consumption .

The DMS solution based on OmniVision products can collect the characteristics of the user’s eyes/face, infer the user’s fatigue level according to the algorithm, voice reminder or open the window, play music to help the driver concentrate, so as to avoid dangerous driving. And this solution also supports the related development of engine start. Only when the user’s face is captured by the camera, the engine will start. Not only that, this solution also supports a 360-degree vehicle-mounted panoramic visual system, which can Display image information such as surround view and front view on a high-definition screen.

Core technical advantages:

OV9284 is an image sensor that supports 1280*[email protected] maximum resolution output;

Support DVP&MIPI two output formats;

It can work at a temperature of -40°C~105°C, which meets the application scenarios of vehicle regulations;

12V DC power input or Fakra interface 12V input can be selected.

Program Specifications:

Near-infrared Camera, two infrared fill lights, Lens size: 1/4″, Dynamic range: 68dB;

Support DVP signal output;

FAKRA (FPD-LINK) interface output.
